Bondage couple speak of nightmare after sex game death

UK- AN ELDERLY couple who were running a bondage business from their home when a client died during a sex game have spoken of their 11-month nightmare after being arrested on suspicion of murder.


Police quizzed Colin and Ann Richardson after 61-year-old jeweller Lionel Webster choked to death when a padlocked chain around his neck became too tight.

Details of Mr and Mrs Richardson's double life were revealed on Friday at an inquest into Mr Webster's death.

It emerged that the couple had converted the garage at their Barlaston home into a dungeon for clients with sexual fetishes.

Now in an exclusive interview with The Sentinel the couple have told how:

Mrs Richardson spent 32 hours in police custody after her arrest;
they have not operated their bondage business since the death;
their attempts to apologise to Mr Webster's widow, Jackie, have been rejected;

they are yet to leave the house since returning from Friday's inquest.
Mr and Mrs Richardson, who live next to Barlaston First School and charged clients £150-an-hour, were arrested after the tragedy on October 26 last year.

During the session, father-of-two Mr Webster had dressed as a military prisoner in an orange boiler suit as Mrs Richardson pretended she was his superior officer.

Mrs Richardson, aged 68, of Broughton Crescent, said: "To be arrested on suspicion of murder and kept in a police cell for hours was frightening. It was the worst experience of my life.

"When we were released from our bail in May and the police told us no further action would be taken we thought that would be the end of it.

"But then six weeks ago we were told we would have to give evidence at the inquest. We have some sort of closure now, but we will never get over what happened. We were very fond of Lionel. He was a lovely man, he was our friend.

"I knew a lot about him although he was a very shy, discreet man. We're just very sorry about what happened."

The couple, who both worked in education before retiring, had advertised their business in a fetish magazine.

Mr Richardson, aged 75, said: "We haven't done anything since Lionel's death. We couldn't face it."

Mr Richardson today reassured parents that the couple's adult interests are no danger to children at the school.

He added: "We can understand why parents would be concerned. This was adult activity which was very discreet. Nobody in the street knew. If Lionel hadn't died then nobody would have been any the wiser."

North Staffordshire coroner Ian Smith recorded a verdict of misadventure after Mr Webster, of Buxton, died from neck compression.
