Church minister delivers spirit of love at Sexpo

SOUTH AFRICA - Every year the Reverend Daniel Brits looks forward to the Sexpo.
It’s the time of year when the 58-year-old minister from Cape Town gets to marry South Africans in a place few would imagine - the country’s biggest sex convention.
Brits runs the Love Chapel at the Sexpo and has been part of the convention since it was first established six years ago.
“I already have two couples who have booked with me for Saturday (today) - it’s very exciting,” said Brits.
“One couple is of the same sex and the other is of different sex (sic). The nice thing about marrying people at the Sexpo is that I marry open-minded couples who are of the new generation,” he said.
Although he says he isn’t perturbed, he has been harshly criticised for taking his ministry to Sexpo.
“Many other churches had a huge problem with me when I decided to work at the Sexpo convention. I have been a reverend for a very long time and churches have always had different problems with me. First they had a problem when I was marrying black and white people, then they had a problem when I married people of the same sex, so I have always been in the limelight,” he said.
“At Sexpo, however, we have the new generation of South Africans. People who come to the convention are forward thinkers,” he said.
Should people be interested in getting married at the Love Chapel this weekend, it is done in a flash.
“Basically, we get the couple married on stage within 10 minutes. Obviously, all the legal documents and Home Affairs work has been done already. So we just have a short ceremony on stage,” he added.
Besides the Love Chapel,
Michelle “Bombshell” McGee, notorious for having an affair with actress Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James, will be there with sex industry icons such as Kayden Kross, Stoya, Kaylani Lei and Alektra Blue.
The tattooed temptress and pole dancer will be signing autographs and having her picture taken with her fans.
“There are stalls with their electrifying toys, lingerie and DVDs for sale. Pricasso is back with more of his penile artistry. But this year we also have McGee and the stunning and fearsome porn stars from Wicked Pictures joining us,” said organiser Phillipa Harvey.
“People can expect more skin, more thrills and more openness around sexuality.”
“Our expo is so varied and diverse that everything on offer is just as exciting, informative and enticing as the next. However, there are things available that are a little difficult to find anywhere else.
At the Chapel of Love you can marry your sweetheart, regardless of religious differences or sexual orientation,” said Harvey.
“Then there’s the crowning and meeting of the New Miss Nude SA, and with the rugby sending our patriotism up a notch, we suggest you check out our new local nude beauty yourselves.”
This year’s show in Joburg will also be hosted by internationally renowned pole dance performers Suzie Q and Toby J.
“They are the crème de la crème of the entertainment world. Not only are their MC skills some of the best we’ve ever seen, but they are a pair of aerial strength performers second to none,” said Harvey.
“Their physical prowess as well as their ability to engage with an audience make them the perfect hosts for this year’s Sexpo. And of course, Sexpo is all about the male and the female, the yin and the yang and we felt it would be good to have both genders represented,” added Harvey.
Tickets at Computicket are priced at R150 for normal access and R250 for VIP access.
Today the expo will run from 11am till midnight. Tomorrow the doors open at 11am and close at 9pm.
