UK - CAMBRIDGE - A bondage event is to be launched in Cambridge after customers flocked to a new fetish store in the city - and despite complaints about the shop’s saucy window display.

Former Netherhall School teacher Jen Ahrell, 42, who claims dons and police officers have visited the Deviance fashion store which opened in December, is launching the bondage night after a similar event at Trumpington Village Hall was cancelled. The mother-of-four and her partner Kevin Gilbert, 44, who run the shop in Cobble Yard next to The Grafton shopping centre, have drawn complaints about their window display from nearby traders.

The window dressing featured a mannequin wearing a latex mask and fitted with a whip and chains.

But the former art teacher said her business is thriving and popular with police officers, Cambridge University lecturers, students, models and even some of her former pupils.

Now she is planning to launch the fetish event in the city.
Ms Ahrell said: “We had always planned to have a fetish night in Cambridge and the shop is doing really well. We get all walks of life here including policemen, Cambridge lecturers as well as students, models clubbers and drag artists.

“Our big sellers are whips and latex jock straps for the men. There have been complaints. I think they were from the other traders here but we have had great feedback from most people. Those that saw the mannequin in the window mostly had a laugh about it. You can’t please everyone.”

And the fetish fashion expert has become an agony aunt for shoppers who like kink - but are shy.

She said: “People come in and are a bit shy about fetish but I give them advice about how to make their fantasies come true and help bring a bit of excitement into their sex lives.”

The couple are selling everything from whips to gags, masks and nurses’ uniforms and hope to cash in on a trend for fetish latex fashion among pop stars.

Cambridge’s bondage community hit international headlines last year after a group booked Trumpington Village Hall for a day of spanking lessons, - with tea and biscuits provided - without telling venue officials.

The event was scrapped following the News’ exclusive revelations after a detailed itinerary was published for the event.

It included spanking, flogging and “kink on a budget”, served up with tea and cakes and a polite request to help clear tables after the event
